Please join me and fellow yoga practitioners from around the world for a ZOOM yoga class dedicated to the dismantling of systemic racism in our world AND to raising money for Black Lives Matter.
As Ashtanga yoga practitioners, we have been taught that ahimsa (non-violence) is the first of the yamas, the ethical tenets of Patanjali’s Ashtanga Yoga path. If we are yoga practitioners who are truly committed to following this tenet, we must also be committed to both anti-racist activism and the beneficial societal goal of dismantling white supremacy. This Solstice class of 108 Sun Salutations offers us an opportunity to directly aid anti-racism efforts! If you've never done a round of 108 Suryanamaskar/Sun Salutations, CLICK HERE to learn how the class will work, and about the importance of the number "108" in Vedic culture. |

I am a white woman, and recognize the privilege and advantages that being white has brought me in this life. I want to do my part to help dismantle white supremacy, which is rooted in violence that has built a world where BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color/Culture) have been oppressed for centuries AND continue to suffer. While developing this class, I was diligent in efforts at de-centering myself as a white person, and reached out to several BIPOC Ashtanga teachers I know personally, seeking their leadership and guidance in this effort. ALL were busy focusing on their own activism, but gave me guidance and encouraged me to lead this benefit class on my own.
